![]() Li Jing continued serving the new dynasty. In 618, after news arrived at Chang'an that Emperor Yang was killed in a coup at Jiangdu led by the general Yuwen Huaji, Li Yuan had Emperor Gong yield the throne to him, establishing Tang Dynasty as its Emperor Gaozu. Li Yuan released Li Jing, whom Li Shimin soon retained Li Jing to serve on his staff. You are not concerned about what is important, but instead are executing a brave man on account of personal enmity!" Li Yuan was impressed by his words, and Li Yuan's son Li Shimin interceded on Li Jing's behalf. At the execution, Li Jing yelled, "You, duke, rose in order to eliminate tyrannical rule for the people. Knowing that Li Jing was planning to report his plans to Emperor Yang, Li Yuan set to execute him. In 617, Li Yuan indeed rebelled, and soon captured Chang'an, declaring Emperor Yang's grandson Yang You the Prince of Dai emperor (as Emperor Gong) but seizing power as regent. However, he was first delivered to Chang'an, and then, as nearly the entire Sui state was engulfed in agrarian rebellions at that time, there was no way to deliver him to Jiangdu from there. Li Jing came to suspect that Li Yuan was plotting a rebellion, and therefore pretended to commit a crime and asked to be locked up and delivered to Emperor Yang, who was then at Jiangdu (江都, in modern Yangzhou, Jiangsu). Near the end of the reign of Emperor Yang, Li Jing served as the Vice Prefect of Mayi Commandery (馬邑, roughly modern Shuozhou, Shanxi), when he served under the general Li Yuan the Duke of Tang, who was in charge of the nearby important city of Taiyuan (太原, in modern Taiyuan, Shanxi) against Eastern Tujue forces. He later served as a low level official within the imperial administration, and it was said that he impressed both the prime minister Yang Su and the important minister Niu Hong (牛弘). His maternal uncle was the great Sui general Han Qinhu (韓擒虎), and it was said that Han was impressed by his talent, stating, "You are the only person that I can talk to about Sun Tzu's and Wu Qi's strategies."Įarly in his career, Li Jing served as a minor county official for Chang'an county-one of the two counties within Chang'an, which served as Sui's capital. In his youth, Li Jing was said to be handsome and ambitious, and was talented both in literary and military matters. His grandfather Li Chongyi (李崇義) served as a provincial governor during Northern Wei, and his father Li Quan (李詮) served as a commandery governor during Sui. ![]() Li Jing was born in 571, during Sui Dynasty's predecessor state Northern Zhou.

Sit in the feelings the event made you feel. When times are uncertain, it never hurts to recall some inspirational quotes. That person is me.Īs we continue into the next phases of our lives, I invite you to recollect those small moments that had incredible impacts. It could have been a move, loss of a loved one, a new job, a new relationship, ending a relationship, an accident, a new habit, or just a wrong turn. Did I really do all that? Did someone wearing my skin do it and I watched it as a movie? It was me. Writing this story now, knowing what I’ve accomplished and everywhere I’ve been baffles me. Mostly I learned that the fear, the uncomfortable, and the unknown are so worth leaning into. I announced to the world that I am a gay man. I met some of the biggest loves of my life. The move forced me to figure out who I was. In 2001 I learned I could meet new magnificent people anywhere. That moment, deciding to do something and make a change when I felt at my worst, exploded walls for me I didn’t even know were standing. I returned to school four days later feeling so free. The rest of the semester was a blast! I turned 21, I accomplished some big goals on campus, had the best going away party ever, and studied in Cuba, further adding to my life changing year. It was the first time I had made a big decision with total conviction and courage. I walked into the restaurant and promptly told them, “I’m moving to Las Vegas!” and then punched in and started working. I didn’t choose to party that night. I went to my room and sulked. The next morning, I got up and called my restaurant job to pick up shifts the last few days of winter break. By the time I drove the hour and a half to the restaurant, I made a really big decision. Twenty year olds have really shitty communication skills. Despite how angry I was, I knew this decision was not made maliciously. That left me devastated because it was already incredibly late to find housing for the next school year. Long story short, I learned they made alternative plans for housing. The guys who were to be my roommates for my final year of college were all there. I returned to Eau Claire early for a club retreat in Upper Michigan. When I arrived to our dynamic house after the retreat, I was shocked to find the living room packed. It was winter break so work was my focus. On campus I was extremely busy while also holding two jobs in my hometown. Peeks and valleys are inevitable in these moments of course Young adults attempting to be grown up while still learning the word responsibility. The name “irregular” gives the impression that these verbs are seldom used, but in reality, they are pretty common in both written and spoken communication. It is necessary to commit each irregular verb to memory because their conjugation does not adhere to any particular norms.Īn irregular verb is a verb that, to generate the past tense, does not add the endings -ed or -d. Irregular verbs infographic How do you conjugate irregular verbs? ![]() The stem change is maintained in all single forms (yo, t, and él) and the third-person plural (ellos). There are three different categories of -ir verbs that alter their stem, and each of these verbs changes their stem in at least part of the subjunctive conjugations they can take. What are irregular subjective verbs?Īlthough the subjunctive forms of many Spanish verbs are irregular, all of them (with the exception of the verbs dar and estar) utilize the same ends as regular verbs. Be conscious that certain exceptions, such as the verb “be,” have specific forms for use in the present tense as well. This involves adding a “-s” or “-es” to the end of the word for the third-person singular form. It makes no difference whether the verb is regular or irregular the present simple tense is always conjugated similarly. She loves music sung only by particular artists. She has sung on stage before so she should not be frightened. The boys sang and danced until the wee hours of the morning. In actual reality, you would finish with conjugations such as these: Memorizing “sing’s” special forms is the only method to acquire the ability to conjugate the verb correctly. Instead, the verb “sing” has its own singular past tense and singular past participle forms. However, due to the peculiar nature of the word “sing,” the conventional principles cannot be applied.īecause “sung” is not the acceptable form of this verb, you cannot use it in this context. Simply adding “-ed” or, in this example, just “-d” to the base form will produce both the simple past tense and the past participle forms of the verb, as the base form already ends in “e.” ![]() No major twist or surprise is involved with the conjugation of the verb “dance ” instead, you just apply the same procedure as you would with most other verbs. This is because “dance” is a regular verb, while “sing” is considered an irregular verb. It is helpful to think of irregular verbs in conjunction with dancing and singing activities. While most English regular verbs use the ending “-ed” for the past tense and participle forms, irregular verbs each have their own unique tense forms and past participles.ĭifference between regular verbs and irregular verbs Irregular verbs are verbs that do not follow the normal patterns for tense and past participle. Use (a word that is not conventionally used as a verb, typically a noun) as a verb. However, irregular verbs replace their many forms with wholly unique terms when functioning as the primary verb in a phrase. When forming the past tense and the past participle forms of regular verbs, the basic grammar rules of contemporary English require the addition of the suffixes “-ed” or “-d.” Irregular verbs are verbs that don’t adhere to standard patterns. Let’s learn about irregular verbs in this worksheet… What are irregular verbs? Because of the many forms they can take, they can get quite confusing for English and non-English speakers. What are irregular verbs? And how are they different from “regular” verbs?
